The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has made a £14 million investment in a national research programme for industrial catalysts

The funding will go to the UK’s Catalysis Hub, which coordinates research on designing new catalysts and processes for clean water, sustainable energy and low carbon manufacturing of fuels, plastics and chemicals.

Catalysts are a vital part of most industrial processes and products, speeding up chemical reactions and improving their economic viability. Examples can be found in treating and using wastewater to produce energy, replacing fossil-based material with bio-based chemicals and creating degradable plastics.
