UK set for £400m biomethane investment

Fifty new biomethane plants will be in operation by 2020 in the UK, according to four gas distribution companies.

Up to £400m will be invested to support that growth, Cadent, SGN, Northern Gas Networks and Wales & West Utilities announced yesterday.

The country’s portfolio of biomethane-producing facilities is set to grow from 98 plants to 146 by 2020.

Plant developers are "keen to take advantage" of a green heat tariff guarantee announced by government earlier this year.
