New planting will take place in Cumbria as a pilot

The government has launched the UK’s first Forestry Investment Zone (FIZ) designed to create new woodland as well as “unlock the economic effects of forestry”.

The pilot project will take place in Cumbria and will aim to attract investment through existing Countryside Stewardship and Woodland Carbon Fund grant schemes. A Forestry Investment Zone officer will be recruited offer support to businesses looking to be involved.
