DEFRA delays response to environmental governance and principles consultation

DEFRA will delay its response to feedback on its consultation on environmental governance and principles, it has announced.

In a note on the consultation page of gov.uk, the department said it would formally respond when it publishes its draft bill on the environmental provisions on environmental principles and the establishment of a new environmental watchdog. The consultation sought views on what functions and powers the watchdog should have and how environmental principles such as the precautionary principle and the polluter pays principle should be applied in law and policy making.
