First council-owned subsidy-free solar farm launched in UK

The UK’s first council-owned subsidy free solar farm using battery storage has been completed by West Sussex County Council.

The Westhampnett project combines 7.4 megawatts of solar PV with a 4.06 megawatt hour battery.

It was built on a 35-acre landfill site owned by the council and is only the second subsidy-free solar farm ever built.

The first subsidy-free solar farm was unveiled last year in Kent which will be the UK’s biggest commercial solar site with a 350MW capacity.
