Cuadrilla ‘breached permit seven times’

Shale gas fracking company Cuadrilla Resources has failed to abide by its environmental permitting conditions and the membrane under its Preston New Road well pad appears to be leaking, according to reports.

The Environment Agency has recorded seven breaches, according to a freedom of information request from DeSmog.

They related to faulty air pollution monitoring equipment, the management of water and waste handling. The breaches included discharging silty water into a nearby stream and using metal skips to store drill cuttings rather than more robust containers that are less prone to leak, DeSmog reported.
