A Somerset company has been fined after a worker poured waste ink into a surface water drain, making the river Yeo run bright purple.

Yeovil cardboard box manufacturing and printing business Ablebox appeared before the town’s magistrates on Wednesday last week, having pleaded guilty to causing or knowingly permitting a discharge of noxious or polluting matter into a controlled watercourse contrary to section 38(1)(a) of the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016.
