New rules tackling nitrate pollution from agriculture and rules mandating sustainable drainage in new property developments have been set out by the Welsh government.

The nitrate pollution regulations, which enter force in January 2020, are a response to the rising number of pollution incidents in Wales. The Welsh government said the number of incidents this year already exceed the number recorded in 2017 and that “there are already reports of poor practices being carried out in unsuitable weather conditions this winter”.
