The impact of Japanese knotweed on the built environment sector is to be investigated by MPs, following several high-profile studies on its threat to the built environment, and a key court ruling in June.

The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee has called for evidence on the scientific evidence of knotweed’s impact on the environment, how it affects mortgage lending decisions and property evaluations. It also wants to know the impact of existing legislation, and how evidence-based responses to the presence of Japanese knotweed can be encouraged.
