Green NGOs urged to help with standards

Charities are being encouraged to add their expertise and voices to committees setting environmental standards

Charities and other third sector organisations are being encouraged to get much more involved in the development of environmental standards.

Speakers at the Sustainability Network for Standardisation’s (SNS) annual conference in June urged environmental NGOs to bring their expertise to committees setting guidelines on products, management systems and corporate governance.

SNS, which has its roots in a project under Waste Watch, was set up to try to encourage more NGO participation in standard-setting and make sure a wider variety of views are being represented.
