Shaun McCarthy to head IEMA standards committee

IEMA has appointed a high-profile sustainability expert to head up its professional standards committee

Shaun McCarthy will head up IEMA's Professional Standards CommitteeSustainability expert Shaun McCarthy has been appointed to chair the professional standards committee of the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).

McCarthy, who was confirmed in the role on 10 April, will lead the committee responsible for ensuring IEMA’s membership and professional standards are robust, upheld and future-fit. 

He is currently director of consultancy Action Sustainability, and has more than 20 years of senior management experience with large companies and 11 years of experience as an independent advisor to a wide variety of corporations and governments around the world.

McCarthy also has wide experience as chair, with a current position at the Supply Chain School and a former appointment to the Commission for a Sustainable London 2012. He is also a full member of IEMA and was awarded an OBE for services to sustainability and the London Olympics in 2013.
