Litter strategy is nothing but a huge disappointment

Despite a need for leadership, the government’s long-awaited litter strategy offers nothing new and dodges growing calls for charges on disposable plastic items

Trewin Restorick, founder and chief executive, HubbubLitter is one of those stubborn, unglamorous problems that riles local communities and fills the mailboxes of councillors but usually stays off the agenda for national government. I was delighted, therefore, when in December 2015, the then environment minister, Rory Stewart, took the plunge and committed the government to creating a national litter strategy for England.
