Repeat offender gets suspended sentence for illegal waste site

A serial waste criminal who made a substantial profit while harming the local environment has narrowly avoided jail

EA officers found significant quantities of waste at the site. Photograph: Environment AgencyA Wiltshire man has been given a suspended prison sentence for operating a huge illegal waste dump on his land in Wiltshire.

Robert Cooper, who has three previous convictions for waste offences, was sentenced at Swindon Magistrates Court on 5 June.

He was given a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for two years. He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £13,000 in court costs.
