Japanese food firm fined £85k for EU ETS breach

The European branch of Japan’s Mizkan Group has been ordered to pay up for breaching EU regulations on greenhouse gas emissions

The penalty was handed out by the Environment Agency (EA) in January to Mizkan Euro - a subsidiary of the Mizkan Group that recently bought the Branston pickle brand.

Under the EU emissions trading scheme (EU ETS), organisations are fined €100 for every tonne of CO2 emitted outside their emission allowance.
