Infographic: A brief history of solar PV in the UK

Solar PV deployment continued its ascent last year, but are the technology’s prospects starting to dim?

Solar PV deployment continued its ascent last year with electrical capacity increasing by 7% (792 megawatts) (see this month's infographic). But are the technology’s prospects starting to dim?

The UK currently boasts 12,098MW of solar PV capacity, spread across 913,669 installations, according to provisional government data from April 2017.

Solar PV has grown by 436% since 2009. Almost half (5,718MW) of total installed capacity comes from large-scale installations above 5MW, and 21% (2,486MW) comes from small-scale plants up to four kilowatts in size.
