Auditors have confirmed suspicions that many biomass boilers in Northern Ireland are wrongly claiming a subsidy

On 30 June, the Northern Ireland Audit Office (NIAO) revealed the results of an initial investigation by consultancy PWC.1 The investigation demonstrated that the owners of most of the 295 boilers it inspected have only loosely adhered to the rules governing the province’s non-domestic renewable heat incentive (RHI).
