‘Bonfire of policies’ slows renewables jobs growth

The UK’s renewable energy sector continues to grow, but growth of employment is slowing due to policy roll-backs and uncertainties since 2015 and the EU referendum.

The rate of growth in renewable energy sector jobs has been slashed by more than two thirds over two years, coinciding with a rollback in government policies and funding since 2015 and Brexit uncertainty, according to an industry survey.

The Renewable Energy Association’s (REA) annual report, released on 24 July, revealed that the sector grew only modestly at 2.5% in 2015/16 relative to 2014/15, down sharply on the rapid 8.8% increases enjoyed in 2012/13 to 2013/14.
