Environment Agency set to reopen 'definition of waste panel'

The industry has welcomed the EA’s plan to reopen the panel, which rules on when materials have reached end of waste status

The move could encvourage innovation aimed at converting waste materials into resources. Photograph: Sima/123RFThe Environment Agency (EA) has confirmed it is to consult on reinstating the ‘definition of waste panel’, which it scrapped a year ago.

The panel, which makes decisions for England about whether a material constitutes waste or not, was suspended by the regulator in October 2016. The agency then sent an email to industry members in December confirming the panel was closed “until further notice”.
