UK to accelerate EU ETS 2018 compliance deadlines in line with Brexit

The government has launched a consultation to bring the UK in line with its carbon trading obligations under the EU cap-and-trade scheme

The government has published a three week consultation over the 2018 compliance deadlines on 6 November, which would take effect from 1 January 2018. 

Bringing forward the deadlines erases potential time lapses for companies operating under the carbon trading scheme after 29 March 2019 (the date the UK formally exits the EU), the consultation says, “regardless of the outcome of negotiations on the UK’s exit from the EU”.
