EA slow to shut down illegal waste sites due to resource cuts

The EA continues to struggle with high risk illegal waste sites and has already exceeded its own annual target for closing sites by the end of the first quarter

Photograph: Pilens/123RFThe Environment Agency (EA) is failing to shut down high risk illegal waste sites quickly enough in England, according to the regulator’s own figures, and resource cuts are in part to blame.       

The EA’s s corporate scorecard, published on 31 October, shows that there were 274 high risk illegal waste sites from April to June 2017.
