Climate lawsuits put European governments, companies in the dock

Frustrated at slow progress from world leaders, environmental groups ramp up pressure in the courts to link government and corporate activities to climate harms

Governments in Europe look likely to face additional lawsuits citing weak action on climate change, and big emitting companies are also likely to be hauled before the courts.

UN climate talks in Bonn have heard that recent or imminent cases in Ireland, Norway and Switzerland are based on constitutional law, citing harmful impacts to health and well-being from climate change.
