Gove considers Environmental Protection Bill this side of Brexit

An Environmental Protection Act and a national policy statement underpinning environmental principles are being considered by the environment secretary

MPs debating amendments to the EU Withdrawal Bill in the House of Commons on 15 November were treated to an impassioned speech by Conservative MP Oliver Letwin in which he told the committee that the “possibility of proper environmental legislation in the form of a new statute is on [Michael Gove’s] mind”.
