Aside from Costcutter’s £650,000 sanction (see main feature), in September, the EA revealed it had agreed a £269,000 enforcement undertaking with Thames Water for fish kill near Luton. The utility covered the EA’s costs, conducted remediation works and paid £50,000 to Luton Hoo estate, £100,000 to Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust and £119,000 to Veralum Angling Club. Anglian Water also paid out £190,000 to four charities for three separate incidents.
