Dong Energy has been given the green light to build the world’s largest offshore wind farm off the coast of Grimsby.
A final investment decision by the company’s board on 3 February means the Hornsea One project is scheduled to come online in 2020.
The wind farm, 75 miles off the Yorkshire coast, will have a peak capacity of 1.2 gigawatts. That compares with 630 megawatts for the London Array - the largest at present - and a total operational offshore capacity of 5.1GW and 2.6GW under construction.
