HSE vows to maintain regulation despite funding cuts

The government’s contribution to the Health and Safety Executive’s budget is to drop significantly, according to the regulator’s latest business plan

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has vowed to maintain its current regulatory activities despite a huge drop in its funding from central government.

The HSE’s business plan for 2016/17, published in April, states that its total budget this financial year will be £234.9m. This is composed of £140.9m from the government, on top of a projected £94m from fees.
