Keeping Asian hornets out
The Asian hornet (Vespa velutina) is an aggressive predator of honey bees and other insects. It was introduced accidentally to France ten years ago and has now reached Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Germany. It could reach the UK via imported goods or simply by flying across the Channel.
The hornet would have a detrimental impact on the beekeeping sector and on the environment and would also pose a risk to public health.
