Newt licence pilot to speed up development

Developers in Woking can now apply for licences to enhance or create great crested newt habitat in a bid to create more resilient populations and speed up development

Great crested newts are protected under both EU and UK law because there has been a dramatic loss in their preferred habitat – weedy ponds. It is illegal to capture, kill, injure or disturb them in England without a licence from Natural England.
