Heathrow proposes tighter air and noise regulation

The operator of Heathrow Airport supports new environmental conditions being in place before it opens a third runway

Zaha Hadid's vision of an expanded Heathrow AirportHeathrow Airport has put forward a package of new environmental measures that signal its determination to building a third runway. They either follow or go beyond the Airports Commission’s recommended conditions for expansion.

The package includes an ultra low emission zone (ULEZ) for airport vehicles, a role for the Environment Agency (EA) in monitoring noise and air quality, and the early introduction of a longer ban on night flights.
