Scotland creates Europe’s largest protected area for harbour porpoises

A new special area of conservation in western Scotland will protect more than 5,000 harbour porpoises and their habitat

The Inner Hebrides and Minches special area of conservation (SAC) - Scotland’s first harbour porpoise SAC - was designated on 25 September. It covers over 13,800 square kilometres and protects more than 5,000 porpoises.
