Parliament approves post-2020 CfD auctions

£730m further funding for CfD auctions beyond 2020 could be reduced if current overspend is recouped during an extended delivery period to 2026

MPs have approved extension of the CfD delivery period to 2025/26. Photograph: Leonid Andronov/123RFMPs and peers have approved a regulatory amendment that will allow new contracts for difference (CfD) for renewable generation beyond 2020, but allocations could still be slashed.

A statutory instrument, containing an amendment to the Contracts for Difference (Allocation) Regulations 2014 extending the delivery period for CfDs to 2025/26, was passed by the House of Commons First Delegated Legislation Committee on 24 October, and in the House of Lords on 25 October.
