Food waste recycler, ReFood, has awarded student Ronan Keane a ‘sustainable visionary scholarship’.

Ronan Keane, a logistics and supply chain management student from Huddersfield University, has been awarded the title ‘2015 sustainable visionary’ by food waste recycling company, ReFood.

This award follows a six month judging process. Keane will receive 12 months of intensive mentoring within the industry and a £5,000 bursary to further progress his studies.

Judges said Keane’s ideas and industry knowledge, regarding the integration and implementation of sustainability into the food waste and recycling logistics process was “highly creative”.

Philip Simpson, commercial director at ReFood, said Keane “demonstrates exactly why we launched the competition - to find a highly talented student who could fly the flag for sustainability; not just for today but for the future”.

The sustainable visionaries scholarship programme is part of ReFood’s ongoing initiative to inspire the food waste champions of tomorrow and eradicate food waste to landfill by 2020.
