Industry could save £4bn through circular economy

A report examining four of the UK’s most strategically important sectors has recommended new business models and greater resource efficiency

Photograph: Dmitry Kalinovsky/123RFThe UK’s manufacturing, pharmaceutical and chemical and food and drink industries could save £4bn by 2050 if they adopt a circular economy approach, according to a report commissioned by Veolia.

It claims that these strategically important sectors will generate a “waste mine” of around 13 million tonnes by 2050 which, if properly re-used, recycled or re-manufactured, would save the industries significant amounts of money.
