The water sector is set to benefit from a recruitment partnership, which aims to fill a yawning skills gap.

Engineering recruitment firm, Matchtech, has partnered up with the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) to increase awareness about the vast burgeoning number of job opportunities available.

On 27 April, the two organisations announced they would begin to work together to boost the sector’s profile. They will take into consideration the new AMP6 funding cycle throughout the water industry and the skills gap that exists for engineers and scientists within the sector.

Over an initial period of three years, Matchtech and CIWEM will run awareness campaigns and promote job opportunities in water and the environment, with joint representation at industry exhibitions and conferences.

Through the partnership, Matchtech and CIWEM aim to improve the number of professionals looking to move into what has become an innovative and growing sector. The partners will emphasise the importance of a professional charter and the benefits that continuous professional development brings to the careers of registered engineers and scientists.

Nigel Hendley, CIWEM’s interim chief executive, said: “We’re excited to be working with Matchtech to communicate the huge breadth of opportunities within this highly innovative industry. Businesses face a skills shortage and are challenged to find the talent they need to grow.

“This partnership will showcase the opportunities available and encourage professionals to consider employment within Water and Environment.  With Matchtech’s expertise in recruiting within this sector, we are confident of a successful partnership.”
