Introducing the ENDS Environmental Impact Awards

This month we launched the ENDS Environmental Impact Awards 2017, a unique new award scheme celebrating sustainability achievement across the broad environmental profession.

ENDS Environmental Impact Awards: Enter now! This month we launched the ENDS Environmental Impact Awards 2017, a unique new award scheme celebrating sustainability achievement across the broad environmental profession.

The diverse environmental sector includes a huge number of roles and organisations, many with distinct specialisms. No other award scheme exists to reflect its entire scope, whether focused within environmental disciplines or working strategically, whether applying environmental expertise to mitigate impacts or providing solutions for more sustainable products, organisations or society.

The ENDS Environmental Impact Awards fills this gap, celebrating the positive impacts that environmental professionals and organisations have on the environment, for society, for customers, and not least for their staff.

We want to offer an opportunity for environmental professionals and organisations to gain recognition: from customers, from peers, from other stakeholders, and from wider society.

This is even more important as Britain goes through the uncertain process of Brexit. As this plays out the environment and sustainability sector will have a vital role in maintaining continuity and seizing opportunities that emerge.

Overall, the awards’ mission is to help excellent environmental ideas to spread, excellent networks to expand, excellent environmental employers to recruit and retain staff and excellent providers of environmental goods and services to prosper.

Entries are encouraged from all sectors, including environmental and sustainability focused organisations, and environmental professionals and teams in mainstream business and government bodies, supplier and consultancy companies, educational organisations and NGOs.

Our judges will look for innovation and positive impact: new thinking, new procedures and new technologies, expertly delivered, that make a meaningful contribution to immediate or long-term environmental protection and sustainability.

Categories

The award categories aim to reflect excellent qualities and benefits delivered by environmental professionals and organisations irrespective of sector (such as government, consultancy or supplier) or discipline (such as waste, water or energy).

Excellence in the field is fundamentally about delivering positive outcomes; so there are categories for sustainability impact and environmental impact of the year, as well as product of the year, project of the year and partnership of the year.

It is also about innovation and new ideas; so there are categories for management innovation and technological innovation of the year, plus insight of the year, knowledge development of the year, skills development of the year and campaign of the year.

The awards will also recognise the people and organisations that make up the environmental sector directly through categories for team of the year, employer of the year and organisation of the year.

The full list of categories is:

  • Sustainability impact of the year
  • Environmental impact of the year
  • Project of the year
  • Product of the year
  • Partnership of the year
  • Management innovation of the year
  • Technological innovation of the year
  • Insight of the year
  • Knowledge development of the year
  • Skills development of the year

Reflecting our ambition for awards to serve the broad environmental profession we are pleased to have the support of professional bodies, including Society for the Environment. We aim to announce more partnerships in due course.
