Oxford low emission zone enters force

The UK’s third low emission zone sets minimum emissions performance standards for buses entering the city centre

Buses in Oxford city centre must meet the Euro V emissions standard after the UK’s third low emission zone (LEZ) entered force on 1 January.

The LEZ was announced by Oxford City Council in March 2009. The rules were phased in over five years through a voluntary agreement with bus firms.

Buses entering central Oxford must now meet the Euro V standard for emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx). Buses can be retrofitted to meet the rules.
