Report slams NI waste crime enforcement

There is “widespread” criminality in the Northern Ireland waste industry, according to a former director of the Environment Agency Wales

A former director of the Environment Agency Wales has criticised Northern Ireland’s approach to waste crime enforcement.

In a report published just before Christmas, Christopher Mills concludes there is “widespread” criminality in the Northern Ireland waste industry and serious problems in the way waste sites are regulated.

The report was commissioned by former Northern Ireland environment minister Alex Atwood following an incident of large-scale waste dumping in Mobuoy, near Derry.
