Brighton confirms UK’s fourth low emission zone

A ban on the most polluting buses will affect 95% of the city’s bus traffic from 2015. Bus operators have backed the scheme

North Street Brighton (photograph: David Dixon, CC by SA 2.0)Older buses will be banned from entering parts of Brighton city centre under plans for the UK’s fourth low emission zone (LEZ).

The proposal for an LEZ starting on 1 January 2015 was approved at a council meeting on 14 January. Only buses meeting the Euro 5 emission standard will be allowed to drive on North Street and Western Road after that date.
