Commission decides not to regulate fracking

The EU has made a series of recommendations to member states on environmental standards for operations involving fracking. The UK appears to already meet them

The European Commission has dodged the question of whether it should put in place binding measures to limit shale gas’ environmental impacts, at least until 2016.

On 22 January, it instead issued a set of non-binding recommendations alongside its 2030 energy and climate package.
