Natural England to cut staff

The body tasked with conserving England’s natural environment has now seen DEFRA slash its funding by a third since 2010.

Natural England will have to cope with a £17m (10%) cut to its budget from April, after DEFRA confirmed the body’s funding for 2014/15.

The move could lead to significant job cuts at the regulator, which is tasked with protecting and improving the natural environment and also delivers the agri-environment part of the government’s rural development programme.

It has already issued a call for voluntary redundancies and will work out how many jobs need to go once this has closed.
