Waste plan lacks targets

The long-awaited waste prevention programme for England lacks targets but does provide new government money for community reuse and repair schemes.

The government has decided not to set waste reduction targets in its long-awaited waste prevention programme for England.1

All EU member states were required to publish national waste prevention programmes by mid-December 2013 to comply with the EU Waste Framework Directive. The programme for England was also promised in the government’s 2011 waste review (ENDS Report 437, p50).
