Route to 2020 SVHC target mapped out

All REACH-registered chemicals will be screened as possible substances of very high concern, the ECHA has revealed in a roadmap document.

More details have emerged from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) on how new substances of very high concern (SVHCs) will be selected under the EU REACH regime for chemicals.

The approach to finding and listing all ‘relevant’ SVHCs by 2020 is explained by the agency in a 9 December document.1 It detailed how ECHA and member states will meet the European Commission’s 2020 target to list all relevant SVHCs (ENDS Report 457, p43). The commission expects this to amount to at most 440 new SVHCs.
