£12k fine for river Ayr whisky spill

An Ayrshire whisky bottling company has been fined for spilling thousands of litres of whisky into a river

A whisky bottling company has been fined for spilling thousands of litres of whisky into the river Ayr.

Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd, part of the Loch Lomond Distillery, pleaded guilty before Ayr sheriff court on 23 January to failing to prevent the pollution of a watercourse.

For breaching regulations 4 and 44(1)(a) of the Water Environment (Controlled Activities) (Scotland) Regulations 2011) and section 20(3)(a) of the Water Environment and Water Services (Scotland) Act 2003, it was fined £12,000.
