DECC to remove property rights block to shale gas

Homeowners will no longer be able to delay projects by refusing to let firms drill under their land, the government says

The government is to give shale gas and oil firms the statutory right to access land below peoples’ homes to prevent anti-fracking activists blocking projects.

DECC issued a consultation on the proposal on 23 May. The access rights would also apply to geothermal energy firms.
