This year’s particularly hot summer has led to another spate of waste fires

In June, the Environment Agency issued R Plevin & Sons with an enforcement notice, forbidding it from receiving any more waste wood at its £5m Hazlehead wood recovery plant. The site had suffered two fires during its commissioning period. Plevin was also required to prevent future run-off from entering nearby watercourses, after a nearby dyke was found full of dead brown trout and a high level of ammonia.
