Labour proposes fracking ban near aquifers

Labour has proposed further amendments to the Infrastructure Bill including one which would ban fracking near aquifers. It is the latest attempt by Labour to influence the development of the nascent industry

Labour has proposed amendments to the Infrastructure Bill that would ban fracking near aquifers and ensure shale gas companies would have to notify residents of any operations in their area.

Tom Greatrex, shadow energy minister and Labour MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, introduced a raft of new amendments on 6 and 8 January.
