US and China lead renewable investment drive

A sharp increase in offshore wind and solar power investment has driven better-than-expected growth in the global clean energy market. But little of this has come from the EU

In 2014 investment in wind rose by 11%, while solar made up half of all investmentThere has been a rise in clean energy investment across the world, but the EU’s contribution has stalled.

According to annual figures published by Bloomberg New Energy Finance on 9 January, overall global investment increased by 16% in 2014 to $310bn (£205bn).

The strong progress was led by China, which increased its investment by 32% to a record $89.5bn, and the US, which saw a jump of 8% to $51.8bn.
