Half of manufacturers unprepared for ESOS

Awareness of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme remains worryingly low despite a looming first audit deadline, a poll reveals

Half of manufacturers are unaware of the mandatory Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) despite a publicity drive by DECC, according to a survey by nPower Business Solutions.

ESOS requires businesses with 250 employees or more or with annual turnover and balance sheets of more than €50m and €43m respectively to carry out an energy efficiency audit every four years. These must be approved by a lead assessor.
