UK lobbies EU for ‘light touch’ energy goals

The UK and Czech Republic have been lobbying the EU for ‘a light touch system’ on the governance and enforcement of climate goals

The UK and Czech Republic have urged the European Commission for a “light touch system” of governance over member states’ climate goals.

According to an unpublished paper authored by the two countries, both the UK and the Czech Republic support the EU’s collective efforts towards energy policy goals, but stress they want this to remain an overarching strategic approach, and not become one that dictates the terms of implementation at a national level.1
