UK solar to be fully economic by 2025

Solar electricity may achieve grid parity within a decade, reducing the UK’s reliance on energy utilities

Solar electricity generation in the UK will no longer need to rely on subsidies and will be fully economic in less than a decade, according to predictions by a German thinktank.

Thema1 forecasts that the UK’s three main solar markets – large-scale ground-mounted, commercial rooftop and residential– will be cost competitive with other forms of electricity generation by 2025 in a report published in December.1
