UK annual wind power output increases by a sixth

The annual electricity output of the UK’s offshore and onshore wind sector grew by 15% last year

The annual electricity output of the UK’s offshore and onshore wind sector grew by 15% last year. UK wind power generated 28.1 terawatt hours of electricity in 2014, up from 24.5TWh in 2013, according to an analysis of National Grid figures by wind trade body RenewableUK.

Overall, wind power provided 9.3% of UK electricity supply last year compared with 7.8% in 2013. The growth in electricity output is consistent with other wind sector figures showing that installed capacity grew by 15% to 11.2GW in 2013/14 (endsreport.com/46184).
